Il nous provoque par ce camouflage de l\u2019arabesque parce qu\u2019elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 rabaiss\u00e9e au fil des si\u00e8cles au statut d\u2019un produit sans cesse dupliqu\u00e9, tomb\u00e9 dans la cat\u00e9gorie de l\u2019objet banal. Un objet devenu banal, repr\u00e9sentant des formes g\u00e9om\u00e9triques, reproduites \u00e0 l\u2019infini, qui, plut\u00f4t que de susciter notre \u00e9motion ou une recherche de sens, ne g\u00e9n\u00e8re que notre indiff\u00e9rence, voire m\u00eame notre ennui. L\u2019arabesque est camoufl\u00e9e parce que trop d\u00e9natur\u00e9e dans les d\u00e9cors qui peuplent notre quotidien, significatifs d\u2019une culture qui se d\u00e9grade, qui se dess\u00e8che et qui n\u2019a plus de souvenir de ce qui inspira cette magnifique \u00e9closion de signes \u00e9tincelants d\u2019intelligence.<\/p><p>Il y a alors urgence \u00e0 nous sortir de l\u2019ennui et \u00e0 nous faire r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir sur notre h\u00e9ritage culturel. Selim Ben Cheikh nous provoque dans la suite de son travail en exploitant les bandes de signalisation, des bandes jaunes et noires, des bandes rouges et blanches. Elles dessinent des arabesques bien visibles comme la signalisation d\u2019un chantier, d\u2019une \u0153uvre en cours, mais aussi du danger potentiel. Il y a urgence\u00a0: il faut remettre la culture en chantier. L\u2019artiste nous met ainsi en garde contre la stagnation de la culture, contre le pi\u00e8ge de l\u2019enfermement et du refus -ou de l\u2019incapacit\u00e9- de renouvellement.
