Selim Ben Cheikh was born in 1979 in Akouda (Tunisia) where he lives and works.
Trained at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tunis, he obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in 2003. He then continued his studies at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne where he obtained a degree in Aesthetics and Art Sciences.
His early research was often linked to the need to visually translate forces of gravity, tension and pressure, which led him to exhibit several times between 2005 and 2007. His three solo exhibitions in Paris include: Humain tout simplement (March 2005) at the Cité Universitaire Internationale; Ballet Mécanique (April 2006), at the Cité Universitaire Internationale de Paris; and Dialogue (June 2007) at the Fondation le Corbusier. He exhibits regularly in Tunis and many capitals around the world since May 2012.
He has three solo exhibitions, Obliques in March 2014, at the Gorgi Gallery, Ijtihad in March 2017 at the Ghaya Gallery, and Incertitudes in September 2017 a La Boite. He has participated in several artist residencies
His recent research questions photography, painting, the relationship of the body to the art work, the concept of trace, while bearing an interest in dust and grain.
